7 Ways to Keep Your Anger Under Control
5. Do not get abusive
Never ever get abusive when angry. People say very mean things when they are angry – the reason being they want to hurt the other party. There is no other purpose. But what really do you get when you hurt someone? Except for superfluously feeding your ego for some time, abusing someone does not bring any kind of positivity to your life. Therefore, whenever you feel like abusing someone when you are angry, take a step back and reconsider.
6. Do not hold grudges
You may be angry with someone who has been extremely unkind or rude to you, but that does not mean that you will hold grudge against him/her. Holding grudges against someone would only remind you constantly of how you were wronged by the particular person and make you feel from bad to worse. Instead, forgive and forget, and you will be living your life without any negativity of any sort.
7. Lighten the situation
The one way an adverse situation can be handled is by using humor. No matter what the cause of distress is, try and see the funny side of it. Falling back on the lighter side of life will enable you to avoid unnecessary stress. So instead of getting upset and retorting angrily, lighten the situation – crack a joke, or make a funny statement. But take care not to be sarcastic, as it would then defeat the purpose and may even worsen the situation.
Remember that an angry image is probably very intimidating and boasts of a strong personality, but people who cannot control their anger are also dreadfully unapproachable even by people very close to them.
