10 Ways to Create a Great First Impression on Anyone
6. Avoid overuse of deodorant/perfume
Wearing a nice deodorant/perfume is always a good idea, but do not overuse it. Also, there are fragrances suited for specific times of the day, and certain fragrances are meant for certain occasions only. You do not have to be an expert in the olfactory industry or anything; just go easy on the perfume and use a good quality deodorant.
7. Take care of your hygiene
Taking care of your hygiene cannot be overemphasized. Keep your teeth brushed, nose clean and hair neatly combed and brushed. Wear minimal makeup in case you are going for work or for a professional and formal meeting. Do not use a jarring lipstick and dark eye shadows unless you are going for a night party or something. Look clean and fresh when you are out.
8. Be optimistic and talk positively
When speaking, avoid speaking negatively about things you hate. Instead, talk positively and with passion about things you love. Instead of talking about the horrors of terrorism, talk about the beautiful weather and the lovely holiday you just had. Speaking about good things is not escapism, it is just the reaffirming of the existence of good things in life, and makes a great first impression as the memories your partner would have of your first meeting would only be pleasant. Also, be optimistic.
9. Listen and let the other person talk
Do not blabber away about yourself only. Give a chance to the other person to speak as well. In fact, ask questions so he/she would speak about his/her life, work, hobbies and experiences. This would show that you are interested in him/her as well and would help in building rapport. And, instead of being restless, pay attention and listen to what he/she is saying.
10. Be yourself
Last but not the least, just be yourself and do not pretend to be someone you are not because in such case, even if you succeed to make a good first impression, eventually your true self will show itself and would make an even worse impression on the other person. By being yourself, you would be true to the person you are meeting as well as to yourself.
