Top 5 Bakeries in New York

4. Amy’s Bread

For someone with an Economic and Psychology background, baking seems like a profession from Pluto. But Amy Scherber knew where her interests lie and decided to start baking than to work at a marketing firm. Having worked in France for 3 years, Amy started Amy’s Bread in 1992. The venture was an immediate hit and is today well known for its handmade breads, made using only natural ingredients.

Their signature bread, Semolina with Golden Raisins and Fennel is a unique combination of flavor and texture. The crunch of the cornmeal from the outside and the sweetness of the raisins and fennel seeds make it a must try. Their other breads that top the charts are Organic Miche, French Baguettes, and Black Olive Twists etc. Also try their delicious morning pastries including scones, croissants etc, and self-indulgent cookies, sandwiches made with freshly baked bread, brownies, cupcakes and old-fashioned layer cakes. You can visit them at 3 locations viz. in Hell’s Kitchen, Chelsea Market, or The Village.
