Top 10 Survival Tips When You Live in a City With Heavy Rains

6. Get air-tight storage containers

All your grains and groceries in the kitchen can get affected terribly in the monsoons. Before they get infested by pests or before they develop fungus, get airtight containers that keep the moisture out and protect your supplies. Some people also keep their spices in the freezer to avoid moisture and humidity from affecting them.

7. Install automatic electric air-fresheners

When your house is locked for the whole day during monsoons, you will return in the evening to a very strong smell and odor of moisture and humidity. To prevent that from happening, install an automatic air-freshener that pumps out good odor at frequent intervals. Since opening the windows for ventilation may not be possible always (as it could be raining all the time and it may come inside your house), this is your best bet.

8. Go more powdery on the makeup

Monsoons can make your face look really oily. This is even worse in the case of people who already have an oily skin. The best way to go about saving yourself, thus, lies in carrying your compact at all times and giving yourself frequent touch ups. Also, go for matte-finish and powder-based foundations and make-up products rather than the liquid ones. Liquid and glossy makeup makes your face look duller and more oily during monsoons, so try and keep a dry and matte appearance at all times.

9. Keep a mosquito repellent handy

At home, make sure you have equipped your windows with proper nets to avoid mosquitoes from coming in. Apart from that, keep a mosquito repellent cream at all times with you, and indulge in regular application to save yourself from getting bitten by one and falling sick subsequently.

10. Make a survival kit

This basically applies to areas that can or do witness very heavy rainfall where houses get flooded. Make a survival kit that consists of emergency things, some food for yourself and your pets, a torch and other things that you need. This will be your go-to kit in case you need to evacuate your house in the event of a calamity or emergency. Also, always keep extra charged batteries for torches and important appliances, for times when there are power breakdowns during rains.

You can’t really avoid rains. If they have to come, they will come. There is no way you can magically or miraculously change the weather. But with the help of these tips, you can at least make your survival mechanism a little stronger and deal with the monsoons in a more equipped fashion.
