5 Tips for Staying Calm Under Pressure
In today’s world, stress and strain have become very much common like a common cold or flu. The myriad roles, responsibilities and commitments add on to the pressure you have to face if you need to survive in this fiercely competitive world. Keeping your cool under such circumstances is really important, but at the same time it is also one of the hardest things to do. Here are some tips to stay calm and composed under pressure.
1. Breathe deeply
Studies have revealed that when we are angry and stressed, our breath becomes very shallow, which in turn causes the body to release stress hormones. During high tension situations, if you can just bring your focus to your breathing and take long, deep breaths, it will have a soothing effect on your nerves and you will start to feel calm almost instantly.
2. Shift gears
If it is possible, get some time out. Go for a walk, listen to music, get some exercise, do something different to take your mind off the issue at hand. You will come back refreshed and better equipped to deal with the situation. If going out is not an option, go to the bathroom and splash water on your face or walk up and down the stairs, anything to get away for a few moments.
3. Stay optimistic
Find out the positive and focus on that. There’s nothing better to instantly transform how you are thinking and feeling. Positive thoughts, words and people will calm you down instantly and make you realize that things are not as bad as they seem and that there is always a way out.
