4. The life expectancy of a patient diagnosed with ALS ranges from two to three years
Almost half of the patients diagnosed with this disease live past the three year mark and some miraculously survive even after five years. However the quality of life is bad as they lose control over all their muscles and cannot do anything by themselves. Towards the end of the disease they are in a completely paralyzed state.
5. The symptoms of ALS are pretty telling of the disease
Muscle weakness and stiffness are some of the early symptoms of the disease. As the disease progresses the patient will have difficulty swallowing, breathing and also have difficulty in controlling their speech.
