Teenage Pregnancy – When A Teen Gives Birth To A Baby
“As a mother, you will need to take a stand during teenage pregnancy. Will you be willing to look after your teenage daughter’s child while she completes her education?,” asked Joyce. “I sacrificed my time and energy to do that because I did not want my daughter’s pregnancy to stop her from getting an education,” she added. Layla too, was of the same views.
“When my teenage daughter gave birth to a baby, I was worried that she would take a massive hit in terms of losing many of her friends and missing out on many of the joys a 18-year old girl should be having,” said Layla. “We faced the same problem too,” agreed Joyce.
Joyce continued and said “Last but not the least, teenage pregnancy will change the course of your teenage daughter’s life. She may not be able to go on to university like others do or she may not have the time or the money to go out like others do.” “You are right, Joyce,” said Layla. “We were left in a moral dilemma when we were faced with the issue of supporting our daughter’s teenage pregnancy financially. We decided that we would, because we knew that welfare, dole and a minimum wage job would not be sufficient to look after our teenage daughter and her child,” she added.
After the candid conversation with Layla and Joyce, we believe that teenage pregnancy is not worth it. Low self-esteem, troubled family life, addiction to drugs and alcohol, violence and lack of sexual education may be the prime reasons for teenage pregnancy. Watch out for these if you are worried about your teenage daughter.
