5 Reasons You Should not Give IPads to Small Kids
How colorful were those days when kids used to turn the pages of ‘Jack n’Jill’, ‘Humpty Dumpty’ and ‘Twinkle Twinkle’. Today’s kids seem to be less interested in books and are more inclined towards hi-tech gadgets like iPads. The bonus-they can now see animated versions of their favorite rhymes. However, debates are still on regarding the usage of iPads by small kids. Here are some reasons you should not give iPads to small kids.
1. Leads to low physical activity
Digital devices like iPads might be information platforms, but it is not helpful when it comes to the health of the kids. The more time kids spend on iPads, the less they move around or get some fresh air. They might enjoy playing virtual cricket, but what would help them is playing cricket on the ground. Too much addiction for iPads can make them less interested in any physical activity. So, iPads are not meant for small kids, as they have to compulsorily go out and play.
2. Discourages reading habits
iPads are helpful to gain information. But, small kids should be encouraged to read printed books. The earlier they instill the practice of reading, the more they will love books. Digital devices like iPads can also help kids read, but they offer distractions as well, mainly in the form of games. A kid, who is addicted to iPad games, seldom finds reading interesting.
3. Reduces the value of relationships
Kids should understand the value of relationships right from their childhood. If a kid befriends gadgets or a virtual hero as his/her best friend, they will never understand the true meaning of bonding. They should make physical friends for better growth and development rather than gadget buddies.
