5 Reasons Why Yelling at Kids is Harmful
Raising kids is quite a sensitive thing. You will never find out until it is too late if you have followed the right way to raise your kid. Raising a kid has become more difficult these days with a lot of information out there telling you what to do and what not to do. You may try to be a disciplinarian or be a friend to your kid and either way you will never be sure of how your kid is going to turn out. Being friends with your kid is a good thing and there are more chances of your kid having a great future and chances of your kid turning into a responsible adult than when you try to be a disciplinarian. There are a lot of disadvantages in being stern and raising your kid with verbal and physical discipline. Recent studies have shown that verbal discipline such as yelling at kids and verbal abuse can be pretty harmful and is as bad a physical abuse such as hitting your kid. Here are some reasons as to why yelling at your kids is harmful.
1. Kids tend to get depressed
Kids tend to get depressed when you yell at them. If your kid does not have a lot of friends and has no other avenues to vent out his or her feelings, yelling will lead to more depression and always remember that you can never take back the words you say in anger.
2. Kids tend to get more aggressive
When you are yelling, you are just transferring your aggression over to another person. And kids can be quite sensitive. They can take on the aggressive behaviour from you and even if they are not aggressive towards you, you can be sure that they would find another way or thing to turn their aggression on.
3. Kids lose their sense of self worth
When you are yelling at your kid, your kid feels like you are treating him or her just like any other person on the street. Also you would end up saying some pretty hurtful things and this is definitely going to make them lose their sense of self-worth as every kid looks for approval from his or her parent.
