6 Myths about Depression You Must Not Believe
4. Depression is a disease
Depression is not a disease. It is an illness that can be cures with the proper medication and treatment. Although some people can never come out of it for a lifetime, medications at least help them live a normal life for as long as they can.
5. Depressed people cannot have a normal social life and are rarely seen in social media
This is also a myth. People suffering from depression are as normal as any other person and they too have a circle of friends and a social media life. Assumptions made about this are wrong as no one would go around advertising the fact that they suffer from depression.
6. Women get more depressed than men
There is no fact finding or scientific studies that say so. Men suffer from depression as much as women do. Starting from adolescents anyone can suffer from depression. A traumatic incident can put someone in a deep depression and people from both the sexes can find it extremely difficult to snap out of it.
Clinical depression is a serious illness and people suffering from it should get help as quickly as they can. When it is serious and debilitating, you just need to start seeing a psychiatrist.
