11 Kitchen Safety Tips
7. Keeps cloths and tissues away from the stove
You must design your kitchen to be safe in every way. This includes the positioning of your wipes, paper towels, tissues and other cleaning cloths. Make sure that you place these items inside a drawer at a safe distance from the stove so that it doesn’t catch fire.
8. Keep a first aid kit in the kitchen
Keeping a first aid kit in the kitchen is essential so that you can take instant action whenever there is an accident. Keep a box containing scissors, gauze, band aid, anti-burn cream, antiseptic cream, cotton balls and other medication recommended by a doctor that can be useful in kitchen related accidents.
9. Get rid of glass items that may have chipped
Are you using a coffee mug which is chipped from its rim? Does your drawer still have a glass which has a slight crack but is not completely broken? Discontinue use of such items because a slight crack could injure your hand while washing them or someone may consume food or drink from such vessels unknowingly.
10. Unplug electrical appliances when you don’t use them
One of the most important reasons why you should unplug electrical items after use is to keep them safe for children. Doing this will also ensure that your machines don’t consume power on standby mode.
11. Stay away from steam
Don’t be under the false impression that only boiling water or piping hot oil can cause second or third degree burns. Steam can also burn your skin if you don’t deal with it carefully. Be careful when you open the lid of a pot boiling away on the stove, pull out a vessel out of the microwave or split open a packet of food that you have just boiled.
