Impress Your Guests By Laying Down A Perfect Dinner Table
4. Dessert serving
Serving dessert is my favorite part of the whole dinner! If you are serving dessert on the table itself, then make sure all the used plates and extra cutlery are removed. It’s not too nice to look at dirty plates when you’re melting a piece of Tiramisu in your mouth! Simply keep the dessert wine glasses, coffee cups, dessert silverware and the flat plates. If you’re carrying desserts to the living room, use pretty looking trays. And here’s a great trick of satiating all your guests after dessert. Keep water glasses! Everyone feels thirsty after having cake and it’s a little embarrassing to keep asking for water.
5. No obstructions please
In a sit down dinner, how irritating is it to not be able to see the person sitting in the opposite chair? You think I am kidding when I say this? I’ve actually heard stories of hosts putting hideous decorative flowers and candle stands on the table runner, in a way that it obstructs view! This is a serious faux pas, ladies. Please make sure that your serving bowls too are reasonably heightened. We’d like the flowers to go into the corner of the room in a vase please!
Setting the table is not just about placing cutlery. Maintain proper lighting, reduce noise levels and keep the kids in control. It’s the overall ambiance in question. You can be less or more stringent with the conservativeness in setting the table according to how formal your evening is and how high profile your guests are going to be. Even if it’s a group of your regular friends, I suggest you should still maintain decorum in laying the table right. It makes for a great impression!
