Impress Your Guests By Laying Down A Perfect Dinner Table
Everyone loves a great dinner party. Who wouldn’t enjoy great food, drinks, company and ambience? But please note that however nice the food maybe or however expensive the wine is, everything depends on your presentation? Let’s start by learning how the table should be perfectly laid, shall we?
1. Perfect table cloth
it doesn’t matter how expensive your table cloth is? What’s more important is its length and how it looks on the table. Amused? I have been to a lot of dinners where the table cloths are hanging too low or they’re so short that they hardly fit on the table. I’ve been to formal sit down dinners where there was no table cloth, just table mats! Decorum and etiquette schools say that a table cloth should hang about 1.5 feet from the edge of your table. Take my tip and add a lovely looking table runner over it to place your hot plates and bowls. It’ll look lovely.
2. The clash of cutlery
This is a subject of great debate and difference. The best way to go about it is to select options that suit your dinner party best. Don’t get intimidated, I’ll make it very simple for you. Place the salad bowls or the bread side plates to the left of the main dinner plate. Place the dinner fork closet to the plate on the left, followed by the fish fork and salad fork. The desert fork can sit horizontally on the top of the plate. If you have fruit forks and coffee spoons too, use your discretion and place them where they don’t look cluttered. All the knives will go on the right side of the dinner plate. That’s pretty straightforward isn’t it?
3. Napkins and glasses
Don’t you just love the way napkins are folded in beautiful shapes in hotels? Well, if you know such artistry, by all means go ahead and place your dinner napkins inside the empty wine glass to make it look fancy. But it you’re not well versed with it, I suggest you stick to the traditional method and place them in a folded rectangle shape under all the forks, as rule has it. And glasses are pretty simple. By rule of thumb, they’re always on the right. Just make sure you use correct glasses for alcohol. That is one area where I have seen many hosts goofing up!
