How to Treat Urinary Tract Infection?
Urinary tract infection is a bacterial infection that affects part of the urinary tract. It has very normal symptoms that look like it is just another fever or cough and cold which is why we have to be careful on how to recognize and treat it. Fever, mental unbalance or stress, fatigue and sometimes also an infection in the blood are some of the early symptoms of UTI. Infants or kids generally suffer from fever, feed less, sleep more and vomit frequently.
Women are more prone to this infection than men and hence should be extra careful. It is usually caused due to fungal infections or specific bacterial viruses. Urinary infection is generally of two types – lower urinary infection and upper urinary infection. The most common symptoms for both the infections are burning sensation during urination, joint pain, vomiting and fever. Though medication is required, here are a few general steps to take to treat urinary tract infection.
1. Drink lots of water
Water acts as a non-toxic for the body and cleans the glands. Drink plenty of fluids like cranberry juice or any other vitamin C rich fluids. They flush out the bacteria through urine.
2. Urinate whenever you feel like
Never hold it in as it may cause further problems.
3. Meet the doctor
When you spot the symptoms of the infection, get a check up done from the doctor immediately. A delay might cause further seriousness in the infection.
4. Never discontinue the course
The antibiotics prescribed should and must NOT be discontinued without completion of the whole course. Even if you are feeling better, the course should be completed.
5. Wear hygienic underwear
Wear hygienic underwear with a cotton crotch so that it won’t be able to hold the moisture in for the bacteria to develop.
