How to Deal With Jealousy?
And awareness comes from rational thinking and good conversation with the people associated; thereby clearing all the doubts and confusions which were the reason behind the impulse. With a clear mind and rational thinking, you start ignoring the imaginary scenarios created by your mind and finally you retrieve back the hold over your thoughts.
Also, if you begin to compare yourself to others, you will finally end up grading yourself as a loser. In the course of life, you will come across people who are prettier, wealthier, smarter, more heroic, more successful or say better than you in some or the other way. Yet always remember, that this is your life and you have to learn to live it in your own unique way.
If you have to compare, do not compare with superiors but the fellow men. This way you will be able to appreciate the fact that you are privileged. As Arie de Geus puts it, “The ability to learn faster than your competition is your only sustainable competitive advantage.” So instead of living with jealousy, you should tie your laces and gear up to face the competition, be it at work or in a relationship. Give your best because this is all you can do, and you never know you could just turn the tables.
All this can of course take a lot of time. Rome, after all, wasn’t built in a day. So you should keep on trying till you learn to tame your feelings and rule your mind to keep jealousy at bay. Jealousy is one of those things we have to eliminate over time, since as we gain experiences of life, we get more mature.
Lastly, do not be ashamed of your feelings. People generally avoid seeking help. Sometimes, a therapist or a counselor may help you overcome it lot faster than you can do all alone. Fears and phobias are best treated by CBT and hypnotherapy. Life isn’t a bed of roses. We have to cross the hurdles with courage.
The “green eyed monster” called jealousy can be killed and you can nurture your relationships to make them strong and secure but for that, you need to fight the battle. It may seem difficult but remember the first step is always the hardest.
