How to Accept Criticism in the Right Manner?

3. It is not about you always

Some criticism may be helpful and some may not be. Some people tend to criticize just to put you down or sometimes because they’re having a tough time. In such situations, it is better to stay focused and try to understand the other person. He/she might be upset because of someone or something and just releasing his/her trapped anger. There is no meaning in half of what people say in such situations. So, it is better to avoid or just ignore these kinds of talks.

4. Reply or let go

If you plan on replying, it is good to have a clear picture of what the other person is trying to say. Ask a few questions seeking clarifications. For example, if someone says your job isn’t very good, then you might need to ask them as to what part of the job they found bad. This will build a healthy win-win situation where you get to improve yourself. But, make sure you have a positive and relaxed approach when you question.

Sometimes it might just be people lashing out at you. Learn to differentiate between people who try to correct and people who try to put you down. If a person has no specific answer to your questions, then he/she is just trying to hurt you. Let go. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.” So improvise but don’t let yourself be put down.
