How to Accept Criticism in the Right Manner?
“Do what you feel in your heart to be right – for you’ll be criticized anyway. You’ll be damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.”- Eleanor Roosevelt
What is the one thing you fear in your everyday life? One of the common answers would be criticism. To stand there and feel yourself growing smaller every minute is not one of the best moments. There isn’t any magical potion or one step guide to protecting yourself from the world. So how do you handle such situations? How to accept criticism in the right way? Here are a few tips.
1. Don’t get angry
It is easy to get riled up and angry when you receive criticism. This is not a good position to switch to. Take a few deep breaths and calm yourself down. There is no point in just talking back though it might seem to satisfy you. But that is just a fake high that you attain with a hangover of feeling worse about yourself and sometimes self-destructiveness.
2. Listen to the criticism
Instead of taking an offensive stand and creating a hostile situation, try calming yourself down and paying attention to what the person has to say. It might be of help to you. Ask yourself these questions. Can I learn something from this criticism? Is there something here that I might not like to hear but may help me?
