7 Facts to Know About SIDS
5. SIDS is preventable
SIDS can be prevented and here are a few ways to do that. Always put your baby to sleep on his or her back and check now and then to make sure that the baby does not sleep on his or her stomach. Use a firm mattress and not pillows and other comforters. Too soft surfaces can cause your baby to roll over easily and press their noses against the surface that can cause them to stop breathing.
6. Do not bundle up your baby too much
Even if it is too cold, do not bundle up your baby too much. Do not put hats or swaddle the kid in woolly blankets. Try to maintain an optimum temperature in the room.
7. Good ventilation can also reduce the risk of a SIDS death
Always make sure that the room is well ventilated and expose your baby to natural air as much as possible. Recent studies prove that good ventilation can reduce risks.
A baby’s life is precious and the first few months can be pretty demanding on you. Make sure that the baby is comfortable, check on him or her a few times in the night. Make sure you do not roll over your baby after breast feeding and do not panic too much. SIDS deaths are very rare and can be prevented too.
