Facts About Good Friday
– The Seven Utterances of Christ
While Jesus was suffering from excruciating pain on the Cross, he made Seven Utterances to different people. Here they are:
– Jesus to the Father: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
– Jesus to his mother Mary and disciple John: Jesus says to his mother, “Woman, behold thy son”. Then he says unto the disciple, “Behold thy mother”.
– Jesus to criminal on Cross: “Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
– Jesus cries out to the Father: “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
– Jesus knew that everything is now finished and therefore to fulfill the Scriptures he says, “I thirst.”
– Jesus cries out a cry of Victory or Conquest: “It is finished.”
– Jesus prays with a loud voice cries: “Father into thy hands I commit my spirit.
After saying this, he expired.
A large number of Christians take the same path as Jesus in Jerusalem even today. He is remembered for the sacrifice he made for mankind and to free us of all our sins.
