7 Easter Traditions from Around the World
5. Giant Omelet, Haux
Haux is a town in southern France and celebrates Easter in its own way. On this day, a giant omelet is served in the town’s main square. This omelet is made using around 4500 eggs and can serve up to 1000 people. The history of the giant omelet is connected to Napoleon who is supposed to have ordered the townspeople to make a giant egg using all their eggs for his army because he liked the omelets he ate in Haux.

6. Pot Throwing, Corfu
Venetians used to throw all their old items out of their houses on New Year’s Day. This was meant to symbolize the growth of new crops that would be stored in new pots. This led to the current tradition of pot throwing in a Greek town called Corfu. On the Saturday before Easter, people in Corfu throw pots and other earthen utensils out of their windows thereby smashing them on the street below.
7. Willow Spanking, Czech Republic and Slovakia
In Czech Republic and Slovakia, men spank women using handmade whips made using willow and colorful ribbons. Since willow is the first tree to bloom in spring, its branches are believed to have powers of fertility and liveliness which is transferred to women by spanking them.
