Curtain Color – How To Choose It?
Let your mood pick the curtain colors
I like each room in the house to have its own mood. Can you relate to this? Yes? Then I recommend that you think about a room’s mood and ambience before you pick the curtain color. The color tone will govern your mood. For a cool and restful tone – pick whites, grays, or dull blues. For a pleasing and earthy tone – pick greens and lighter shades of browns. Before you quote me on this – be reminded that different people perceive colors differently. If you have strong feelings towards a particular color – go for it. I hate green – so I stay away from anything that has a shade of green. You get the point, don’t you? Pick your style. Pick your color. Enhance your mood.
Remember light control will affect your choice of curtains
Before you pick a curtain color – think of light control. Do you want the room to be filled with sunlight? Go for lighter fabrics with a light colors like white, very light yellow, brown or even pink. Do you want to block all light? Go for darker colors like dark gray, darker shades of blue, green, brown. I’d suggest that you go for an insulated lining if you want to block all light.
Curtain and blinds
Okay this is getting exciting. If you like to mix and match, or unleash your creative side – I’d suggest you experiment. Try to incorporate curtains and blinds on your windows. This way, you can have multiple tones on your windows. White blinds and brown curtains, blue curtains and gray blinds, the mixes are endless. Let me warn you – do it only if you have a good taste when it comes to color and interiors. I’ve seen many wannabe designers picking horribly wrong color combinations. Think three-dimensional when you decide to go this way. You will need to visualize the color of blinds+curtains, and the color of the walls to ensure that all the three tones complement each other.
I recommend that before you decide on a color – do your homework for different options in terms of color, fabric, and style. Think beyond the square window that you are trying to cover. Think how the color of your curtain is going to affect the look of your interiors.
