7 Common Complications During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is such a beautiful concept, feeling and an experience to cherish. It is so unique to women and the fact that you are creating and sustaining a life inside of you is nothing short of a miracle. Your body goes through a lot of changes when you get pregnant. Some put on excess weight, some experience an increased hair growth, there are a lot of hormonal changes too, making you susceptible to a lot of mood swings. Other than the normal swelling of breasts and feet, there are other changes that can cause complications to you as well as your baby. Not all women experience this, but a lot of women do go through complications and scares during the pregnancy. Here are some common complications that any woman can expect during her pregnancy.
1. High blood pressure
High blood pressure or hypertension occurs when the walls of the arteries get thickened. This restricts the flow of blood around your body and also to your uterus. Hypertension during pregnancy may cause preeclampsia or premature birth, none of which is good for wither the baby or for you.
2. Gestational diabetes
Due to the hormonal changes and also sometimes due to pregnancy cravings and the change in diet, some women get gestational diabetes. While it goes away after the delivery in a lot of women, some women are not so lucky and stay diabetic even after the birth.
3. Preeclampsia
Another complication which can be fatal for the mother and the baby is preeclampsia. No one really knows what causes it, but some of the reasons include preeclampsia during a previous birth, hypertension, gestational diabetes, being African American, age etc.
4. Miscarriage
This is a threat that all women experience. Even though this is rare, a woman must be very careful during the first 20 weeks of her pregnancy as this is when the chances of a miscarriage are high and generally happen. Miscarriage happens naturally, when the body rejects the fetus or the uterus is too weak to carry the uterus.
