Obesity related issues- how they hurt in long term
Discrimination
Although the society and the world in general, has come a long way in realizing that obesity is a disorder, there may be cases when an obese person is looked down upon. There are still some people who do not hold back in letting obese people know that they hold up more space than they require on trains or laughing at their inability to use small spaced public loos and so on. In the eyes of the population that does not suffer from obesity, the disease is ridiculed.
Decline in will power
There are many who have tried to lose those extra pounds, but in vain. Repeated attempts to do so might result in the “giving up” feeling. This results in loss of will power. Many people turn to food for solace which amplifies the disorder. Among obese people, it is very difficult to accept that there is a problem in the first place. To top it off, when they fail to get rid of the issue, it gives a massive blow to their self-esteem and will power.
Restriction in mobility
Obese people may find it difficult to be active and mobile, as opposed to their slimmer counterparts. Mobility is a benefit in all avenues of life – physical fitness, sports, recreational activities and sex. Experiencing restricted mobility in these avenues makes people, suffering from obesity, feel ill-equipped and inferior.
Childhood obesity issues
Many people suffer from obesity since childhood. It is a terrifying experience for such children to be teased and ridiculed due to their weight, size and appearance when they are in school. It leaves a lasting impact on their mind which is inevitably carried forward to adulthood. It becomes extremely difficult to get rid of all the trauma and distress suffered in childhood and a permanent mark is left on their psychological state. This results in anxiety and depression.
The average obese person surely knows that this disorder restricts him/her from indulging in certain pleasures of life and this anxiety leads to lower levels of happiness. Some are even plagued by depression. However, it is very important to know that obesity is a disorder, which can be cured by inculcating healthy habits such as eating right and exercising. In no way does it reflect the personality of a person. Obese people must be counseled on these lines and so should be the people around them, so that instead of ridiculing or pitying at them, they’d let them lead a normal life.
