All You Wanted To Know About Chemical Peeling
1. Superficial peeling
Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) which are used for mild or superficial peels, are natural in origin but now are increasingly being synthetically manufactured. But for mild peeling, glycolic acid is the chemical that is popularly used.
This treatment takes about 10 to 15 minutes when the doctor applies the chemical solution to your face. There is no protective layer applied on your face after this and you can resume work immediately. But you need to take care that you don’t expose yourself to the sun without the right protection. The normal strength of glycolic acid for mild peeling is 12%. Your doctor may apply this peel weekly or at suitable intervals. You may also have to apply a maintenance cream of an AHA in lower concentration at home, which will be provided to you by the doctor.
Now, let’s talk about the negative effects of the treatment. The AHA peels may cause some redness, irritation or stinging at the beginning. But these effects disappear as the skin slowly adjusts to the peel and in a few days, you will get a glowing and fresh skin. The result is amazing. Your sun damaged skin is visibly improved and the skin also becomes smooth. Superficial peels remove the dead cells from your skin’s surface which makes the skin grow faster and also removes the very fine skin lines. This peel is also known to treat uneven pigmentation when mixed with bleach and also control acne.
Sometimes mild peeling is done to prepare the skin for medium depth or deep peeling.
