Starting a vegetable garden at home is a cool way to keep you occupied and have some exercise. More than that, your own vegetable patches helps save a lot of money in the long run. You don’t have to go out and buy vegetables as you will be growing them in your own backyard. Growing your own vegetables is healthy too as you will know what goes into growing them and will not be using any harmful pesticides or chemicals. Growing tomatoes, lettuce, onions, herbs and spices in the garden will also save you a lot of trips to the shops as these are the vegetables you will using the most be it in regular cooking or making salads. 1. Plan on what to grow and how much

It is important to plan what you want to grow and how much you want to grow in your garden. It always helps to have a trial run before you start big on the vegetable garden. Start by choosing the vegetables that you and your family like to eat, and then you can start experimenting with different vegetables. Also plant something that would grow in your place. There is no point in trying to grow something exotic and getting disappointed when nothing comes out of it.

2. Choose the right spot

Plants need a lot of sunlight and enough water to grow. Choose a spot where the plants will get a lot of sunlight and water them enough. Plant them somewhere where you can water them easily and also make sure that the water doesn’t stagnate. Also keep the garden close to your kitchen so you can pick the vegetables fresh when cooking.

3. Soil

Vegetables need good soil to grow. Keep it moist and also fertile. It is best when you do not use any chemicals to make the soil rich. Use natural fertilizers or compost to keep them fertile. Also keep them well tilled to remove all the weeds and keep a check on the insects and reptiles that live there.
