8 Tips to Baby Proof Your Home
When your little one begins to go about and explore places, you should know that it is time to baby proof your home. But where do you start and what should you child-proof are good questions especially if you are a first time mom. So, here are some proven tips to baby proof your home.
1. Use safety plugs
Electrical outlets are perhaps the first things that catch your child’s fancy. So make sure you use safety plugs to cover the unused ones. Check for all such outlets because kids are smarter in discovering ones that we usually overlook.
2. Cover the fireplace
If your home has a fireplace, the first thing to do is buy a fireplace hearth cover since babies are most likely to crawl and run the risk of getting hurt. Cushiony devices can also prevent accidents.
3. Install gates near stairways
All stairways must be carefully gated since children are often fascinated by stairs. Going up and down can be fun but has ample opportunities to result in accidents. Gates at the bottom of the staircase and at the entrance of the bedroom will ensure your baby does not run into accidents near stairways. Make sure the latch is always safely bolted.
4. Rearrange your kitchen
Kitchens have a lot of cabinets and drawers. The ones that can be easily reached when your child grows up to hold and stand should only have those items that are safe for your child to play. Nothing sharp like knives or heavy utensils should be stored in these places and cause harm to the innocent child.
