8 Tips to Prevent Urinary Tract Infection
Urinary tract infection referred to as UTI or bladder infection can affect both men and women but the latter are more susceptible to it. It takes place when bacteria make way into a person’s bladder. Antibiotics are the general cure but can involve a lot of visits to the doctor. Taking certain preventive measures can help keep UTI at bay. We give you some tips to prevent such an infection.
1. Take a shower and not a bath
Constantly lying in a bathtub can makes your urethra more prone to infections. This is especially true if the bath is shared by other people. Instead of sitting in a pool of water, take a shower instead. This can help avoid UTIs.
2. Urinate more often
Do not hold urine when you get the urge to use the bathroom as this increases the risk of infection. Urinate once every 1 to 1.5 hours. Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water for this.
3. Choose the correct underwear
Use cotton underwear for daily use as the fabric allows air to pass through and keeps infection at bay. Silk or polyester traps moisture and bacteria against your body. Wear thongs and tights only occasionally.
4. Avoid cross legged sitting position
Sitting with your legs crossed for a long time creates a suitable environment for bacteria to grow and infect. Make sure you get up from your desk and move around several times in a day.
