1. The Overseas Highway, Florida Keys
In 1938, this highway was originally built on top of what was once the Overseas Railroad. Stretching about 130 miles (most of it over water), the Overseas Highway is made of 42 bridges between Key Largo and Key West. You can witness some stunning sunrises and sunsets while you drive through this majestic road. The total drive can take about four hours. One of the most superb bridges on this highway is the Seven Mile Bridge. When it was first built, it was one of the longest bridges in existence.
2. Guoliang Tunnel Road, China
Located in the Taihang Mountains, this amazing Guoliang Tunnel is carved along the side of and through a mountain in the Henan Province of China. The drive can be very thrilling yet extremely dangerous since there is no room for error. The 1,200 meter long, about 5 meter high and 4 meter wide tunnel took 5 years to get completed. The best part of this tunnel are the windows that offer a striking view of the deadly cliff below.
3. Karakoram Highway, China/Pakistan
The highest paved international road in the world, the Karakoram Highway is a great road to drive on. Often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, this highway offers a stunning view as it joins China and Pakistan across the Karakoram mountain range.
4. Going-to-the-Sun-Road, Glacier National Park, Montana
This superb 50 mile, paved two-lane highway was completed in 1932. Since this road passes through almost all types of terrain in the park, you get to view the stunning glacial lakes, beautiful cedar forests, the windy alpine tundra, and more.
