8 Ways to Prepare for a Long Flight
There are many of us who often use air travel for business and personal reasons. Short distances are easy to cover and do not require much preparation before or during the flight. Long journeys, however, can really take a toll on your body and mind. We give you some of the ways to prepare well for a long flight.
1. Pick the right airline
When you have a long haul flight, you need to be very careful as to which airline you choose for your travel. The last thing you want is to spend hours in an airline that offers minimal leg space, cramped up seating, no modes of entertainment and uncomfortable seats. Research well before you book the tickets.
2. Get a good night’s sleep before the flight
You may try and not sleep before the flight because you are hoping to sleep through the long journey. However, know that it may not be always possible to get some sleep in the flight. If you have kids on board or a noisy couple or more, then you may not be able to sleep peacefully. This will add to the crankiness and make flight seem even longer. Do not risk your sleep and make sure to sleep well the night before you are boarding.
3. Carry your entertainment with you
Even if the airline offers good sources of audio and video entertainment, it is always a good idea to carry your entertainment with you. In case of a long flight, you can carry your iPod, earphones, your laptop, some board game, favorite magazines, a good book, etc. The point is to not rely completely on the airline to provide you with the required entertainment.
4. Take things that would add to your comfort
It is extremely necessary that you keep your comfort in mind while boarding a long flight. Make sure you carry a good travel pillow, ear plugs, eye shade, etc. Basically, things that would help you enjoy a good sleep. Your comfort should be the top priority.
5. Keep yourself hydrated
When you are in a long flight, it can get very dehydrating. It is important that you keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water and taking in some fluids and juices. You can also use eye drops to minimize the effect of the dry air on your eyes. Carry some lip balm and moisturizer with you.
6. Dress right
It is vital that you wear comfortable clothes instead of tight and stiff ones. It should be easy for you to move around in the flight. It is advisable to wear loose clothes that are easy to wash. Wear comfortable footwear and minimal jewelry.
7. Carry some snacks
It will be helpful if you take some snacks or sweets with you. Carrying protein bars can be a very good idea in case of a long-flight. Since most in-flight meals have low protein content and are high in carbohydrates, it is advisable to carry some high protein munchies with you.
8. Move around
In case of a long flight, it is extremely essential that you do not let poor blood circulation cause you body aches. You can try the in-seat exercises as suggested by the airline. If yours is an overnight journey, then you can just take a mid-night stroll to stretch your body a bit.
