7 Ways to Beat Postpartum Depression
Though what you feel when you hold your baby for the first time is indescribable and truly wonderful, many women suffer from postpartum depression which might take away a lot from the joy of being a mother. You may start feeling like your entire world has changed for the worse and you are going to be forever stuck with diapers. We give you some of the ways in which you can beat postpartum depression.
1. Take precautions during prenatal period
There are many things that you can do during your prenatal period to ensure that you suffer minimal postpartum depression. While you are pregnant, you should focus on fatty-fish oils. The lack of DHA has often been linked to depression. Fish like tuna, salmon, halibut, and sardines have high levels of DHA. Also, avoid excessive sugar intake during pregnancy.
2. Walk
If you make it a habit to walk during and after your pregnancy, then it will help keep the depression at bay. It will give you a reason to get out of the house every day and give you some much needed distraction.
3. Make time for yourself
Many women get so engrossed in taking care of their baby that they forget that there is a whole world out there waiting for them to enjoy its little pleasures. Do not get too caught up being a mother of a new born. Take a break from time to time. Catch up with an old friend, go for a pedicure, or just watch a movie. You can even do these things while carrying a baby on your hip. Your life does not necessarily need to change completely, just because you have given birth to a child.
