One may find it rather daunting to separate facts from myth, given the sheer magnitude of myths surrounding skin care. With a quest to debunk your skincare woes, we present to you a comprehensive list on 10 myths about skin.
Myth #1: Frequent scrubbing is good for skin, especially with products containing natural ingredients like walnuts & apricots
Fact: Scrubbing exfoliates the upper layer of the skin’s surface while unclogging pores, removes oil, grime and dirt from them. Excessive or frequent exfoliation, however, leads to excessive oil production which kills the whole purpose of maintaining clean and unclogged pores. Also, scrubbing with products containing harsh granules tends to have an abrasive effect on the skin.
Myth #2: Eating chocolates causes acne
Fact: Eating chocolate cannot be linked directly to causing acne. Acne is caused by various factors such as hormonal imbalance, increased sebum production, and clogged pores, to name a few. One must not overeat anything though, as it may cause other health problems.
Myth #3: Washing the face frequently throughout the day is good for skin.
Fact: Frequently washing the face can actually cause skin dryness and irritation. Washing the face twice a day, with a mild cleanser should suffice.
Myth #4: SPF with a high protection spectrum makes you sun safe.
Fact: Although SPF with higher value is believed to provide adequate protection, you need to ensure that the SPF offers protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Many sunscreens provide protection against UVB rays only.
Myth #5: Anti aging topical creams can miraculously reverse skin aging.
Fact: Skin aging is a natural process which no “magical” cream can totally reverse. Retin-A has been clinically proven to be effective in reducing wrinkles.
