9 Warning Signs of Anorexia
One of the most common eating disorders, anorexia should not be taken lightly. If you are worried that you or someone you love might be suffering from this debilitating eating disorder, then here are some physical, behavioral, or emotional warning signs to help you out.
1. Denial of hunger
Those in danger of suffering from this eating disorder constantly deny being hungry, even when they are starving. They refuse to eat and start skipping meals.
2. Sudden change in eating habits
If a person suddenly seems to develop new eating habits, it might be a sign that he or she is suffering from anorexia. This could include eating meals secretly, or insistence on eating only certain types of food, or cutting the portions into increasingly smaller pieces.
3. Extreme weight loss
Anorexia is like starving your body of the necessary nutrients. Probably the most obvious sign of anorexia, excessive weight loss is a warning sign that must not be left unattended.
4. Baggy or layered clothing
Those suffering from anorexia often resort to dressing in layers so as to hide their weight loss.
5. Excess body hair
Excessive weight loss leads to a drop in body temperature. To respond to that, an anorexic person may have a layer of downy hair across the legs, arms, or face.
