9 Tips to Avoid Feeling Drowsy After Lunch

Do you find it absolutely impossible to do anything productive after your lunch? Do you feel the need to sleep as soon as you eat your lunch? Post-lunch drowsiness is very common and can prove really disastrous especially if you are a working woman. We give you some of the ways in which you can prevent this grogginess after lunch.

1. Have a good breakfast

If you are one of those people who skip breakfast then it could be the reason behind post-lunch slumber. Those who do not have a proper breakfast end up eating a big lunch and that leads to drowsiness. So, if you have a healthy breakfast then you’ll be active throughout the day.

2. Eat throughout the day

If you take small meals throughout the day then you will not feel the need to eat a big lunch. If your mini meals have healthy fats, lean protein, and whole grains, then you will feel energetic throughout the day.

3. Be aware of what you are eating at lunch

Make a note of what exactly it is that you are eating during lunch. If you take a heavy meal with food that takes time to digest, then it will make you groggy. Avoid taking junk food and eat light at lunch, especially if you are at work. Carbs like pasta, rice and potatoes are a big no-no. Opt for proteins like chicken, salads, broccoli, etc.

4. Avoid wine or beer for lunch

Needless to say, having beer or wine at lunch will make you feel sleepy afterwards. If possible, avoid taking alcohol during the weekdays. Having had a lot to drink the night before, might also make you feel sleepy the next afternoon. Be especially careful if you are a working woman.

5. Go for a walk

To tackle the drowsiness post-lunch, you can just go for a short walk. You could simply roam around the office, do some stretches while you are at your seat. Just do something that makes you feel active. By doing this, your blood circulation will increase and it will enhance digestion.
