9 Steps to Make the Perfect Homemade Peanut Butter
If you are a big fan of peanut butter, try making natural peanut butter in your own kitchen from fresh peanuts, roasted instantly. Homemade peanut butter not only tastes better but is also a healthier option to the commercial peanut butter that contains excess sugar, oils, salts and even added preservatives. Not only this, you even have the flexibility to make it as per your choice – coarse, smooth or somewhere in between! Though homemade peanut butter has a shorter shelf life as compared to its commercial counterpart, the awesome taste and nutrition that you get from making it at home is definitely worth trying. Here’s the recipe for perfect natural peanut butter that you can make at home.
1. Ingredients
You would need almost 2-2.5 cups of shelled peanuts. 1-2 tablespoon of any vegetable oil (sunflower, safflower, peanut or any other oil). Pinch of salt and ½ teaspoon of sugar.
2. Roast the peanuts
Slightly roast your raw peanuts in a pan. You can also bake them in an oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 6-8 minutes. Keep stirring your peanuts every 2 minutes to avoid burning them.
3. Allow the peanuts to cool down
After roasting your peanuts, allow them to cool down before you process them.
4. Put the peanuts in the food processor
After cooling, you can pour all your roasted peanuts into the food processor. Grind the peanuts for 2 minutes until the mixture is finely chopped and begins to clump up.
5. Add oil
Most peanuts do not contain natural oil sufficient enough for making a smooth butter. You therefore need to add about 1.5 teaspoon of vegetable oils. Try using peanut oil for best results. However, you can also make use of other neutral flavored vegetable oils such as safflower oil, canola oil or even sunflower oil.
