9 Signs That Prove You Are An Internet Junkie
Are you spending a majority of your day on the Internet? It’s a different story if you have an online business or if your workplace requires you to be on the Internet for long hours. But otherwise, if your interests in gaming, shopping, chatting, gambling, online social networking or pornography are driving you to use the Internet all day, you could be seriously addicted to the Internet. Let’s look at the following pointers to see if you’re an Internet junkie or not.
1. Excessive email checking
Do you use the loo at 4 am in the morning and check your email on your way back? Do you check your iPhone or Blackberry even before you brush your teeth? If you happen to be disconnected for some reason, do you always think of who must have emailed you? If your answer to all of these questions was yes, then you surely are or on your way to become an Internet junkie.
2. Your pets are online
We think keeping a webpage or a profile for your pet is pretty cute, but overdoing it by living a virtual life on your pet’s behalf is a little too much. Can you believe this? We’ve seen friends buying pet toys online and flaunting them off in front of other pets (who are also online!) or a male pet flirting with a female pet and many other crazy things. Is spending so much time for something this fictitious really worth it?
3. Mood Swings
As amusing as it sounds, Internet and the online world have a strong effect on our mood. Do you hate it when someone interrupts your chat conversation? Or if someone opens the door of your room when you’re busy streaming a movie? Are you grumpy all day if someone posted annoying things on your social networking profile? If you’re talking rudely to your family members or not even seeing them once a day because of your attachment to the online world, you have a problem there.
4. Facebooking your way through life
Did you announce your engagement on Facebook? Or even worse, did you break up on Facebook? If you’re dealing with your ‘real’ relationships online, then it’ll not be surprising if you lose contact with the people you’re interacting with in your ‘real’ life. You may change your update every 10 seconds, but if you’re Facebooking your way through important things in life, you need to reassess your priorities.
5. You don’t keep in touch
Everyone has Internet at home these days, but ladies, the reality is that there are many people, your grandma for instance, who still don’t have Internet access. Do you keep forgetting birthdays and making phone calls to such people with an excuse that they don’t have a profile on the Internet? If yes, then be warned, you are well on your way to becoming a certified Internet junkie.
