If you have houseplants then this is a red flag. Mold spores can grow in the plant pots. They can even spread to the floor. So, it is important to remove dead leaves from the houseplants on a regular basis. In addition, use saucers and avoid over-watering the plants.

7. Pets

A lot of people are allergic to pets. Some people blame the animal’s fur for this, but the main reason behind allergies caused by pets is “Proteins.” Found in urine, saliva and pet dander, these proteins are a major cause of allergies in humans. The dead skin flakes of your pet become airborne and settle on your rugs. The dead cells even spread to furniture items and bedding. So, keeping the pet out of your bedroom will help.

If you can’t invest too much time and money for the maintenance of carpets then consider removing them altogether, but never keep them dirty.

9. Books

Books are man’s best friend but the same books can be the best friend of pests. Book dust invites mites and mold spores along with tiny creatures known as book lice. So, make sure you vacuum the surfaces of the book shelves and books regularly. Store the books in closed containers. This idea will not only help you keep the look and condition of the books intact but it will also help you stay away from allergy.

If nothing works, consult a doctor and tell him that you have rashes on your skin, sneezing or other problems which indicate that you are allergic to something. Make sure you don’t wait for the next weekend or the next holiday. It could be serious!
