8 Tips to Baby Proof Your Home
5. Close all doors
Make sure all doors are kept closed since a crawling baby can get into places like bathrooms and either create mess or get hurt. Glass doors should have decals fixed on them so that the baby doesn’t commit the mistake of getting through it and bumping his head.
6. Flatten corners and edges
Make sure all sharp corners and edges have guards stationed on them. Or better still, sharp corners can be flattened so that potential bruises are avoided. Similarly, a bathtub spout or other faucets must be guarded so as to avoid a child bumping into it.
7. Place non-slip mats
Non-slip mats are essential in regions that are prone to be slippery like bathrooms. Non-slip pads should also be placed under rugs to prevent slips.
8. Secure loose cords, tablecloths and easy-to-cling items
Make sure all things that a baby clings onto are either safe, does not come in harm’s way or fall off. Cords can easily harm a baby. Also, tablecloths and other easy to pull cloth items should be secured lest something heavy on top of it falls and hurts the baby. Similarly, locks, door knobs and gates must be checked periodically to secure them in place.
While these are the usual areas and things that need to be baby-proofed, it is always better to check all places, corners and rooms multiple times to avoid potential troubles. Needless to say, it is also important to keep a first aid box handy if an accident does happen.
