8 Things to Do On Your First Day In Office
5. Try to learn names
It is indeed difficult to learn new names by heart. But, when you are introduced to someone in the new office, try to memorize their name. Break the ice with them during lunch breaks and apologize to them for having forgotten their name. Then when they tell you their name, repeat it a few times. When you make an effort to really learn names of your colleagues, they will appreciate your gesture and befriend you in no time.
6. Talk only when asked to
On the very first day in a new office, it is best to shut your mouth and listen to what others have to say. Don’t begin conversations like a chatterbox and irritate people around you. Also, make sure you don’t reveal too much information about yourself on the very first day as it may land you in trouble if the information goes into the wrong hands.
7. Avoid boasting about yourself
When asked to talk, give as much information as required. Avoid boasting about yourself and your achievements. You may have been a gold medalist at your school but it has no connection with your office. No one’s interested in knowing who you are, especially on the first day. As they get to know you more, they’ll come to know about your merits. Wait until then.
8. Do the tasks assigned to you
On the first day at a workplace, you are not expected to do much work, in most cases. Whatever be the scenario, you must ensure that you finish the tasks assigned to you and only then leave for the day. If you keep a task on hold or postpone some work, it will create a bad impression and affect the way people view you.
