8 Myths about Alcohol Busted
5. Eating before drinking keeps you sober
If you think eating a big meal before drinking will keep you from getting drunk, think again! A large meal will only delay the alcohol being absorbed by the body as the stomach lining will be covered by food. When you drink on an empty stomach, the alcohol reaches your blood stream faster, that’s all. A meal before drinking will only delay this process as the food has to be digested first, and when your stomach is clear again, the absorption process will start off.
6. Eating before bed reduces hangover
Eating before bed does not help in any way because the alcohol has already been absorbed by the body. If you think eating a fat-heavy snack like a pizza or burger will do you any good, you are mistaken. In fact, the combination of greasy food and alcohol is even worse as it could cause acid reflux and indigestion. Eating a light snack before drinking is a better option, but drinking in moderation is of the essence.
7. Vomiting helps you sober up and prevents hangover
Alcohol is absorbed by your body almost immediately, and when you vomit, you may get rid of just a very small amount in your stomach which really will make no difference. In fact, if you have drunk to the point of feeling like vomiting, the alcohol has already done its job and there is no escaping the dreaded hangover the following day, whether you vomit or not!
8. Coffee and a cold shower sobers you up
Getting rid of that bad hangover is not easy and nothing you do is going to be of any help. A cup of coffee and a cold shower may wake you up or make you a little more alert, but the hangover will take its own time to pass.
