8 Interesting Facts about Wine
5. Red and White
Unlike red wine which is produced only from red grapes, white wine can be produced from both red and white grapes. The red color is due to the fact that the grapes are fermented with their skins on which is not the case for white wine.
6. It’s all in the smell
The scent of grapes is referred to as “aroma” for young wine, while “bouquet” refers to the smell of a more mature wine. But some wine testers use the term “nose” to describe both together.
7. Wizards of wine
Dionysus of ancient Greece is thought to have produced the first wine, while the blind Dom Perignon developed Champagne for the first time. Thomas Jefferson, on the other hand, had the good fortune to select wine for the first five U.S. Presidents.
8. Seasoning ingredients
While we might prefer the actual aroma of wine, apparently the Romans thought otherwise. They used a wide variety of things to season their wine which included fermented fish sauce, garlic, asafoetida and absinthe.
