7 Ways To Help Your Teen Get Organized
5. Check and follow up with your teen
So you helped your teen organize the closet, clean the room and set a schedule. What about it after a month? Is that schedule still being followed? Is the room as clean as when you left it? Organization can be useless unless it is made into a regular practice. Make it a point to have a chat with your teen at regular intervals and see if your kid is following your instructions or not.
6. Arm your teen with planning and organizing tools
This is exactly like the age old proverb which says that it is better to teach a man how to fish rather than give him a fish to eat every day. Arm your teen with a planner, an organizer, a calendar or other resources to plan with. Teach your teen how to set deadlines or reminders and break-up huge tasks into smaller ones to accomplish them more easily.
7. Give your teen timely rewards
Teens tend to have wish lists that are generally larger than their budgets. So using rewards as bait in helping your teen to be properly organized may work wonders. Let your teen change tough-to-break habits in expectation of a few goodies every now and then.
