7 Tips to Break Children’s Bad Habits
5. Give positive reinforcement
When you are trying to break the bad habits that your children have, it is important to appreciate them when they change themselves for the better. Know that breaking a bad habit is never easy and your child will require a lot of determination to do so. Always remember to give positive reinforcement every time your child successfully manages to overcome a bad habit.
6. Walk the talk
If you want the child to watch less TV, then you have to first bring a change in the number of hours that you watch TV. If you feel that your child has a bad habit of lying all the time, then you must first try to be honest with him/her about things. You have to set an example for your kids so that they can follow you. If you do not practice what you preach, then you will never be able to bring about any kind of positive change in your child.
7. Show them a better way
It is not just enough to ask your child to stop doing something. You must find a better way for him/her to spend the time. For instance, if your child drinks too many carbonated drinks, then try to slowly and steadily offer him/her a healthier drinking option. If you do not like that your kids bite their mails, then give them something else to do with their hands like painting, or playing an instrument. Eventually, their bad habit will be replaced by a good one.
