7 Tips on What to do If Your Child doesn’t Listen to You

5. Agree to your child

This is one reason why most children don’t listen to their parents. When they ask something, their parents always tell them a big ‘no’. Replace the ‘no’ with a ‘yes’ if you want your child to listen to you. For instance, if your child asks you for permission to watch TV, give your child that permission, but set a time limit.

6. Provide your child feedback

Provide your child the necessary feedback and advice rather than order him/her to do something in a particular manner. You read that right. If you order and demand things from your child, naturally it will affect his/her behavior. Be soft in your approach, and advice your child on things that may harm your child. When you provide information, your child will listen to you carefully.

7. Forget about timeouts

If you think that timeouts help to discipline your child, then this is not true. Timeouts can provide temporary relief to your problems. Let go of the timeouts as it may cause a negative effect on your child. Instead, if you make your child understand the importance of play time and the relative importance of studying or doing other chores, then your child will willfully spend less time on less productive activities.
