7 Tips for Dealing with Temptation
5. Get to the root of the temptation
It is not enough to suppress a temptation with strict measures, but also to get to the root of it to understand it better. Knowing the basis of your problem will help you to strategize the way in which you want to deal with the problem of having recurring temptations. If required, seek help of a counselor to know if your urges are linked to an unresolved matter or a deeper psychological issue.
6. Indulge in your temptation with discretion
You should decide how much and how early on you want to indulge in your temptation depending on how big and frequent it is. For example, if your temptation of eating ice cream is occasional and you are trying to lose weight, indulging in eating ice cream once in a while may actually help you to decrease the temptation.
7. Divert your resources
Most temptations are likely to require financial resources to be fulfilled. This includes going to a party when you have an exam the next day, buying a dress on sale even if you don’t need one or eating too many candies. Create a difficult situation for yourself by using your spare money for something else. This will ensure that you have no resources to fulfill your temptation.
