7 Things you Should Never Tell Your Boss

5. “You must give me a promotion”

It is never a good idea to tell your boss directly that he or she needs to give you a promotion. If you really deserve a promotion, your employers are likely to approach you and offer you a raise or a new job title. If you think that you have been treated unfairly and someone less deserving has got a promotion ahead of you, address your concern in a more professional manner rather than curtly demanding a promotion.

6. “I don’t know, this is how I have always been doing this”

Your boss expects you to be aware and knowledgeable of the things you are working on. You are not expected to show ignorance when your boss asks you why or how you are doing a certain task no matter how big or small it is. If you show ignorance by telling your boss that you are doing it just because that is the way it has always been done, you are indirectly showing him or her that you really don’t care to understand the process. This is a bad attitude and is not appreciated by employers.

7. “I am not staying back late because I don’t get paid for the extra time”

There might be a time when work load is more than usual and you may be required to stay back for an hour or two. If there is a similar situation with you, never tell your boss that you will not stay back even for five minutes because you don’t get paid for the extra time. If you have stayed back for a couple of hours, ask your boss if you can leave a little early on a day when work load is less rather than shirking responsibility and refusing to stay back longer.
