7 Habits for Good Health
Good health is one the most sought after things in today’s busy lifestyle. Due to the long and irregular working hours we have today, and the lack of proper and timely eating habits, health has taken a backseat. Spending a small fortune and joining a gym is not the only answer. There are plenty of other things you need to habituate yourself in to, in order to ensure a healthy body and mind. Listed below are the top 7 habits for good health which you must follow.
1. Never skip breakfast
The most important meal of the day is breakfast. No matter how busy you are, or how early you must reach office, you cannot afford to miss breakfast. In case there is a lack of time, carry your breakfast with you and have it on your way to office. Or wake up earlier and take your time to have a nutritious and heavy breakfast as it will keep your body fuelled for the rest of the day by giving you the necessary energy for working. By skipping breakfast, you make yourself more susceptible to fatigue and other health problems.
2. Maintain a healthy diet
Throughout the day, you have to be careful about what you eat, how much you eat and when you eat. A proper diet is mandatory, and so is the amount and time. Have small meals every 2- 3 hours a day, instead of having four large square meals which make you fat and unhealthy. Also, you need to curb your intake of foods with lots of fat in them, oily and spicy foods, fried foods and foods which are processed with artificial flavors and sweeteners. Instead go for fruits and vegetables, nuts, peanut butter, low fat milk and yogurt and so on. Take care to include all the essential nutrients and minerals in your diet. Take the advice of a nutritionist or dietitian if you wish to determine the most appropriate diet for you.
3. Exercise regularly
There is no alternative to exercising regularly. And no, you do not have to spend several hours working out in the gym. The minimum recommended duration for daily physical exercise is 30 minutes for maintaining optimal health. Also, you can join yoga classes or just walk, jog, run and cycle for some time every day. However, for the perfect exercise, you should do all of these – gym, yoga and cardiovascular activities alternatively throughout the week for maximum benefits of all exercise types. Swimming and other outdoor sports are also avenues of good physical exercise.
4. Stop smoking and drinking
Merely reducing the number of cigarettes you smoke is not going to help. Start reducing the number as a first step but eventually you must let go and altogether stop smoking. Not only will you save money, you will do your body a great favor. The same goes for alcohol. Do not drink. All you may have is a glass of wine during meals sometimes.
