7 Easter Food
5. Pretzels
Pretzel is a European baked food item that is prepared using dough. It can be either hard and crispy or soft and chewy. The shape of pretzels is such that, it resembles the arms of a person crossed in prayer. This is the main reason why pretzels have been considered a traditional Easter food item. In Italy, salty pretzels are traditionally prepared during Easter.
6. Roast Lamb
A lamb refers to a sheep that is less than a year old. The custom of having roasted lamb comes from the ancient times of the first Passover of the Jews. Among them, it was a tradition to sacrifice the first lamb. This lamb was roasted and eaten with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. It was believed that this act would pass the angel of God over to their homes. It was believed that this would keep their families away from harm. Another reason for this tradition is the fact that the lamb is a sign of purity among Christians and Jesus is often referred as the Lamb of God.
7. Bread
Bread is one of the symbols of Christianity. On the evening of the Last supper, Jesus had shared a piece of bread with his disciples. In many countries, it is a custom to have a procession to the Church on Easter night. In this procession, people carry a basket of bread in one hand and an Easter candle in the other.
Festivals are an important aspect of every culture, but along with every festival comes a different spread of food. Easter being one of the most important festivals in the Christian calendar, the spread has to be, without doubt, a sumptuous one.
