6 Ways to Put an End to Your Child’s Bedtime Tantrums
4. Match your own sleeping time with your child’s, even if it is temporary
Bedtime tantrums are known to occur in kids if they are aware of the fact that you as a parent get to sleep much later. Your own sleep schedule can speak volumes to your child. To not make your child feel left out, pretend to shut out the lights of the entire house when it is time for your child to sleep. Once your child is asleep, you can get back to doing your normal routine.
5. Be a little stern
Sometimes a child’s bedtime tantrums can be completely baseless and irrelevant. A child may be deriving mere amusement and pleasure by complaining and keeping you up. If you sense that your child is up to something similar, be firm and stern. Send your child a strong message that you will not give in to any type of bedtime demands or tantrums.
6. Fix a bedtime ritual
Your child is likely to negotiate with you to narrate just a couple of more stories, have only a few more songs played on the iPod or cuddle just for ten more minutes before bedtime. While this can be a subtle form of tantrum which your child may use with an hope to delay sleeping, it is probably better than having to face a cranky child who is wide awake. Keep bedtime amusement and entertainment constant every day and have space for negotiation so even if your child demands that you read one more story, it is just a matter of 5 to 10 minutes.
