6 Ways to Get Your Children to Focus on School Work
4. Give your children the freedom to face consequences
One of the aspects of letting your kids take initiative for doing school work is to make them realize the consequences of being unprepared. If your kids refuse to do homework even after continuous persistence, let them be on their own for a while. One their grades being to slide and they start receiving negative remarks from their teachers, they will automatically focus on school work.
5. Give your children small treats for completing homework
Until your kids are at an age when they realize the importance of doing school work on their own, they are likely to be influenced by extrinsic motivation. You can prod your kids to do school work regularly by offering them reasonable treats from time to time. Your treats don’t need to necessarily include chocolates and sweets. They can also include and extra hour to play or permission to have a sleepover with friends.
6. Don’t be a control freak
It is important to be a tough nut as a parent when you are trying to get your kids to study. But that doesn’t mean you become a control freak. Don’t strangle your children while you get them to finish their homework or complete a project. After you have laid the ground rules, give your kids some time, space and patience to get into a studying routine. If your kids get put off by your controlling behavior, you will have a harder time getting them to be focused.
