6 Ways to End a Conversation Without Being Rude
4. Change the subject
If the person you are talking to has keen interest in a certain subject, he or she is likely to talk about it endlessly. If you want that person to stop talking, make attempts to change the subject. Deliberately pick a subject which he or she is likely to have no idea about. This may ensure that your conversation ends without you having to resort to any type of white lies or charade.
5. Use body language
Use body language to your advantage and send signals of not being interested in making small talk or conversation. You can resort to simple tactics such as constantly checking your phone, looking around you aimlessly, standing on your toes to watch over the shoulder of the person you are talking to or continuously looking at your watch. If the person you are talking to is smart enough, he or she will get the message that you need to leave.
6. Be direct and apologize
Sometimes it can become impossible to stop someone from talking. This can make it difficult for you to get out of a conversation. In such scenarios, it is better to be honest and upfront without being rude. Apologize for interrupting and mention that you would love to catch up the next time around but you have to leave for the time being. By doing this, that person will get your message clearly and won’t feel bad at the same time.
